City Receives Quality of Life Award for Five Mile Hill and Bicentennial Park Improvements

The City of Grand Haven was recently awarded the Project of the Year Award from the Midwest Branch, Michigan Chapter of the American Public Works Association at their annual membership meeting for Quality-of-Life improvements associated with Bicentennial Park retaining wall replacement and the Five Mile Hill Overlook Reconstruction. The award demonstrates the City’s commitment to improve and sustain the community’s quality of life for our residents and visitors alike. The City Council approved the capital improvements in the 2024/25 fiscal year, digging into the City’s fund balance to accomplish the improvements.

Fall 2025 Yard Waste Drop Off Site Extended to November 22, 2025

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that Republic Services will be providing waste containers at Harbor Island for the additional date, Saturday November 22.

Fall 2025 Yard Waste Drop Off Dates

Fall yard waste drop off kicks off this Saturday, October 18 and will be available every Saturday only until November 15. The drop off site is located on Harbor Island in the boat launch overflow lot at the north end of the island. These services are only for residents of the City of Grand Haven who are Republic Services Customers. No staff will be present to assist in your drop-off. However, the site is under video surveillance. Any dumping other than qualifying yard waste is strictly prohibited.

2025 Blanket Policy

Blanket Policy: The City of Grand Haven invites the public to place sheets, caution tape, golf tees and chairs on all public property to reserve space for the parade and fireworks, after 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025. Materials placed before 12:01 a.m. will be removed by City crews.

Friday, August 1, 2025 is strictly prohibited.

      We’ll even transport the sled to the hill the next morning for those of you without trucks or trailers.
      Come get your corrugated paper product race machine ready to fly!

      Winterfest Slopestyle Competition - 5:30pm
      Moved from Sunday to Friday!
      Registration begins at 4:00pm.
      Competition begins at 5:30pm.

      Winterfest Kids Day - 12pm-3pm
      This is the place for kids!
      Creative projects, balloons, face painting, bounce house, snow angels, and more!
      Bring the family inside and warm up with a variety of activities.
      Walk over from the Cardboard Sled Race or catch the shuttle from downtown. There’s plenty of parking available in the afternoon too. Doors open at 12:00 pm.

      Winterfest Euchre Tournament - 12pm
      Registration starts at 10:45 am
      Play starts at NOON
      Play some cards. Have some fun!
      Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Pre-register by calling the Elk’s Club at (616) 842-0970.

      Winterfest Snow Angel Contest - 1pm
      After the Cardboard Sled Race, come make a snow angel by the YMCA during Kids Day. We provide the decorating materials.No need to register ahead of time, just show up and make pretty angels in the snow. All ages welcome!No Snow? No Problem. We’ll use chalk and make sidewalk angels instead.

      Winterfest Bonfire Bash - 3pm-10pm
      It’s the middle of winter in Grand Haven… let’s roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a bonfire and play summer yard games. Cheer on teams from the Freeze 4 All Snow Volleyball tournament and stay toasty warm while enjoying a cold beverage. Enjoy craft beers, ciders, music, and more around a dozen fire pits right downtown. Fun for kids of all ages. Free La Colombe, hotdogs, marshmallows, and hot chocolate while they last.

      If you're interested in serving drinks, handing out hot dogs and marshmallows, or other fun volunteering for a couple hours, the sign up sheet will be out soon.

      Winterfest Freeze 4 all - Snow Volleyball - 4pm-9:30pm
      On Saturday - During the Bonfire Bash! We’re playing volleyball. In the middle of winter. In the snow. In a parking lot. And yeah, it’s going to be awesome! We’re hauling in dump truck loads of snow into the Harborfront Parking Lot. Grooming the courts. And setting you loose. It’s a 4 on 4. (get it? Freeze “4” All)
      It’s Co-ed. (because that’s more fun)
